You Are My Favorite

One thing I missed about blogging circa 2000 ("I'm oooold... I'm like the crypt keeper!")? Surveys! I used to religiously answer Friday Five and loved answering all those year-end surveys.

This is the first time I'm reading about the Liebster Blog Award, but I'm thrilled to have been nominated by Richelle. Why? Because apparently liebster means favorite in German. Now from what everyone has been posting, I'm supposed to choose my favorite blogs that have a relatively small following (as in not The Sartorialist level siguro?) and have them answer 11 questions.

Here are the questions from Richelle:

01 Which fic­tional char­ac­ter you would like to date, and why?
A from Every Day! I just recently read it and fell in love. Obviously, it would be tough dating him, but I'll make it work somehow. Haha!

02 What is your top pet peeve?
People who brush their teeth in a public bathroom. I know you want your breath to smell fresh all day, every day, but people wash their hands, where you are depositing your tinga! s: Pop a breath mint and brush your teeth at home. Please.

03 If you could live any­where else in the world, where would it be, and why?
Paris? I don't know. I've always been fascinated about the language, the food, the style. I've never been so I don't know if I'd actually like it, but it seems like it would be a good place to live in. (:

04 What did you have for lunch? Was it good?
Adobo flakes + adobo rice from the newly-opened Adobo Connection near the office. SOOO good! I can probably have it every day, haha! (Note: I actually answered this last Tuesday and only had time to finish the post and publish it today at 8 in the morning.)

05 What can­celled tv show(s) would you want to bring back and why?
So manyyy. Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies. I watched Wonderfalls years after it aired, but loved it all the same. From the same creator, I got too sad when Pushing Daisies could no longer be revived. Sadface. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars.  Two of my favorite series! Still hoping for that Veronica Mars movie. Hello, buntis na si Kristen Bell!

06 What is your favorite mode of trans­porta­tion?
Car! Although when I went to Singapore early this year, I did enjoy commuting. Haha! If we had a better system, I probably wouldn't mind taking the train to work.

07 What songs would make it to your “I’m stuck on an island with one mix tape/cd” (Yes, I know I’m old) playlist?
It would definitely have these 3 songs in there somewhere: "Every Day Is A Holiday (With You)" by Esthero, "Sleep All Day" by Jason Mraz, and "Comfortable" by John Mayer.

08 If you HAD to join a real­ity TV show (local or for­eign) which one would it be?
Master Chef or Top Chef. Haha, feeling!

09 What did you want to be when you grew up? Are you what you planned to be when you were 9 years old?
I always answered, "doctor," to that question. Up until I found out I had to handle a corpse in med school, I really did want to become one. Then it eventually changed into a writer. I suppose I'm sort of a writer? But not exactly the kind I thought I would be.

10 Who is the crush (past or present) you are most embar­rassed about?
I'm never embarrassed about any of my crushes, no matter how ridiculous!

11 I had a pretty good 2012. How was yours?
Surprisingly, this year has been pretty awesome. My motto was "eat well, travel often" apparently. Made it to three new places this year and I have a perpetual food baby from all the eating I've been doing. I'm hoping all the good vibes of 2012 will extend to next year!

Metal or non-stick? Non-stick. Less mess. (:

Cast iron or stainless? I'm not sure. Both?

Cutting board: silicone or wood? Wood. I don't think I've ever owned a silicone board.

Knife: carbon steel or stainless? I rarely use the knife so I'm not sure, either. Is there a difference? Haha.

Kitchenaid or hand mixer? KitchenAid fo sho. I have two. One handed down to me by my Mommy and one given to me as a gift by her sisters.

Cooktop: gas, electric, induction? Gas. That's the only one we have I think.

Side-by-side, freezer on top, fridge on top? Right now, freezer on top. (: I don't have a house of my own yet, therefore no refrigerator of my own, either.

Apron or whoops? I have lots of aprons at home! But it's just too hot to wear one. I really should though. I keep getting myself in flour or confectioner's sugar. Haha! I have cute one that looks like a dress (my brother gave it to me for Christmas) and another one that says Pushing Daisies across it.

Mashed potatoes: by hand, ricer, or mixer? I haven't made mashed potatoes in a loooong time. But I think I mash them with a fork... by hand.

Sandwich or wrap? Sandwiches are easier to make. But only because sandwich bread is easier to find here in Manila. Haha!

PB & _________ ? Nutella! Duh. d:

Pancakes: syrup or applesauce? Do you even put apple sauce on pancakes? Maple syrup! Or peanut butter and Nutella. Haha, sorry, those are two of my favorite things to eat.

Cake: scratch or mix? Scratch. I don't think I've ever made a cake from box mix.

Chili: beans or no? I've never made chili... so.

Napkin: cloth or paper? We only use the paper ones here at home.

BBQ: takes the whole weekend to make or take out? It doesn't take the whole weekend to make! d: I love the chicken barbecue our houseboy and all-around helper makes. It's got soy sauce, ketchup, sugar, and a bit of white wine in it. Mmm, tasty!

Chicken: white or dark? I don't really have a preference. I usually go for the bigger part. Hahaha!

Ice cream: cone or dish? Either way, I'll eat it! But if it's in a cone I like waffle cones or sugar cones. (: Mmm. Now I want some ice cream!

When did you start dancing?: My first memory of dancing was my mom "teaching" me ballet in our backyard in Marikina. Ha ha! Yes, it took years and several pictures for me to realize that no, those were not real ballet lessons. It was me and my mom. In our backyard. In leotards and tights—pink and red!

When did you sign up for your first dance class?: Very first class? I'm not really sure, but probably the first real dance class I attended (and paid for) was the one in Powerdance back in college (summer after Freshman year). I wanted so badly to get into UP Street. Heh.

What genre was it?: Street/Hiphop and Jazz.

What type of dance do you do now?: Street/Hiphop and I sometimes attempt (operative word being ATTEMPT) jazz funk/funk fusion.

Do you dance on a team?: Well, kind of.

What's the team's name?: UP StreetDance Club in college (I miss!) and the S----- Cru (hahahaha) at work. d:

Where do you usually perform?: My first ever performance for UP Street was at the Cersa Open House in Ateneo. Oh God. The one where we stood motionless for 10 seconds. Ahhhh! O:

How often do you perform?: My last performance was three years ago?

Have you ever been on TV for dance?: Nope.

Have you ever been in the paper for dance?: I think we got featured in a magazine before for a concert.

Have you ever had to compete or do a show with cheerleaders?: I was part of UP Street's Elevate compet team for two years—one of which we won first place (the following year, we lost to UP Filipiniana?).

Have you ever had to dance to Jock Jams?: Is this a cheerleader thing? The one with sound effects? If yes, then, yes.

What was the last song you performed/competed to?: Last performed to was "Hotline" and "Wait a Minute" at my last UP Street concert. ):

What was your last costume?: I forget what it was called but I was in orange and green. Nya.

What is your current performance song?: Not really a performance song, but we were learning the Switch and Sinden remix of Santogold's "You'll Find A Way" two weeks ago in dance class.

How often a week do you dance?: Sigh, not often enough.

Do you choreograph?: No, hehe.

What are you favorite dance movies?: But there are so many! Haha! Save the Last Dance, Step Up 1 and 2, You Got Served, Honey, Bring It On

Has anyone wanted to date you just because you're a dancer?: Haha parang no. They usually find out after and are very much surprised. :))

Do you have makeup people for your shows?: No, haha! We do our own makeup in UP Street.

What hip hop/pop singer is your dance style closest to?: Eh? I don't know.

Do you want to dance professionally?: No. (:

What do your friends/family think of your dancing?: My mom used to hate the training and rehearsals. I'd always get home late.

What move/moves are you worst at?: Stunts. Nya.

What move/moves are you best at?: Yung tamang mga pa-cute lang. Hahaha! Kidding. I'm really not sure.

Are dancers stereotyped?: Such as?

Is dancing a sport?: I never really considered it to be, but it should be!

If you could dance at any event what would it be?: Backup for Justin Timberlake. Ahhhhh.

Has anyone ever asked you for your autograph?: Hahaha, not for dancing, though. d:

Did you inherit your dance talent?: My mom loved ballroom dancing, so I'm guessing the dancing gene is from her. d:
