#NowPlaying: '90s Girl

Back in the age of Napster, Audio Galaxy, and Kazaa (hahaha), I remember listening to all my faves and downloading my absolute favorite tracks even if I already had cassette tapes and CDs of their songs.

Back in high school, one of my favorite performances ever was when we danced to Aaliyah's "Are You That Somebody" for the school fair. Garbed in tank tops and the baggiest pants, we channeled baby girl's swag all of 4 and a half minutes after weeks of rehearsing. If I remember right, we watched the music video over and over again so we could copy the steps. Haha! We would eventually do this for other performances like Jordan Knight's "Give It To U," lol.

I missed the '90s so much that I decided to search for some of my favorite tunes on Spotify (love Spotify!). Which one's your favorite?

Turning point

From the looks of this grainy picture, you can tell this was a long time ago. d: More than a decade ago, to be exact. Freshman year. In the new high school building up in the mountains of Antipolo. I have in my hand a glass of what I'm assuming to be iced tea. My staple recess for all four years of high school. A glass of iced tea and two doughnuts—one Nutty Chocolate and one Chocolate Butternut (My all-time favorite doughnut. Dunkin Donuts the best! What Krispy Kreme?). I guess all that sugar is now manifesting itself by way of my jiggly stomach and thunder thighs. =))

I remember so many things when I look at this picture. My hairstyle: hair tied into a half-ponytail because my hair was buhaghag (still is). My too-big-for-me Tag Heuer watch that I forced my mom to give to me (she eventually got it back when they gave me another watch, which I thought was nicer—now I have three watches, but I still use that watch because I think it's the nicest). My standard pearl earrings, which I've contemplated on changing (just switched for slightly bigger ones in college) because some people have this superstition that you're going to stay single when you wear pearls (hello, saan nanggaling yon?), but 10 years down the line, I still wear pearls. Oh, and yeah, I'm still single. Haha. Money in my sailor blouse pocket, which was always filled with odds and ends. All of which would scatter to the floor when I was rushing to get to the line outside our classroom right after the bell rang.

"Best Days" was our high school anthem and to this day, I still think of those four years as the best. I met my lifelong friends and discovered my three loves in high school: baking, dancing, and writing. I used to sell my Maple Vermont Walnut bars at food sales (shortened periods! long recess!). Danced to Michael Jackson's "Rock with You" in my first year of high school for the high school dance. Got my poem published in a book before I graduated.

How nice it is to still get to live part of that life when I'm at work. (:

Kids These Days

Today, a fifteen-year-old hit on me, IRC-style. As in "/me asks you to go out" shiz. It's not cute. At all.

And strangers are talking about sex with fifteen-year-old girls.

What is wrong with the world (wide web)?

I feel extremely responsible for the high school teens hanging out on our site. Yikes. How can you ever be absolutely sure that none of them are going to get tricked into meeting up with some stranger who has bad intentions?

You just hope and pray that they're smart enough to know better. But most of the time, they're not. ):

I ♥ my girls

It's so amazing how the month hasn't ended yet and I've spent time with most of the important people in my life—my friends. I have yet to see the handful of people from Wazzup (or those who were from there? :P Haha!) but I'm pretty sure we'll get together soon.

Getting together with my high school girlfriends last week was awesome. We didn't spend that much time together since we're all working now, and we had no choice but to meet on a weeknight. But I have to say, it was a blast having dinner (aba, succesful ang potluck dinner!) and then, playing (or trying to play) poker. Haha!

Then, the following night, I got together with my best buds from college (plus Patty's friend from GMA, Ghia) to watch, ahem, KKK. Haha! We were so noisy inside the theater, I'm surprised nobody threw popcorn at us. :P It was great hanging out with them even after a tiring day at the office. So funny that Kaich noted how I was so much happier now. She said that whenever we got together when I was still working in Wazzup, I'd just space out. Like, I was dead half the time. Haha! So true. "Mace? Are you there? What's your order?" "Huh? Oh, adobo flakes." Then, I'm dead again. HAHA. Those were the days. :P I'm so glad I'm out of that rut. :D

Because my posts are boring without pictures:

This was taken by the girl who sells tickets. We might've weirded her out a bit. :P

Yes, that's what KKK is. HAHA!

What is that FAAAACE!?

Inside Ghia's car, on the way to Kaich's

BW effect! Hehe!

Hala, Naf! Be very afraid. You need to appear more often at these things. :P Just kidding, darling! Tama na kasi ang aral! Haha!

Mikko's coming home tomorrow and hopefully all the girls show up for lunch! Woohoo! Two of my super good friends who now live on the other side of the world are actually here. I can't believe it. We've got to make the most out of this month. Seriously.

This post is already long and rambling, so I might as well just go on with it. I got a Friendster (wow, so 2003! haha!) message from one of my YFC friends, Elaine, and she said I haven't aged at all since she last saw me. Aww. What a sweet thing to say. Hopefully, we also get together since we practically just live a few steps away from each other! And I haven't seen her since high school. Wow, high school. It seems so far away. I'm oooold!
