Outside My Actual Job
There are days when I get lucky to step outside my actual job (which has got a lot to do with this website), and do something completely different. Well maybe not totally, but definitely something I don't usually do as a website editor.
My very first racket was for Yummy, a story on using coconut in different recipes. Former Candy fashion editor Shar assigned me and we shot everything in her house. I was sooo nervous, but got so kilig when I saw my name in the magazine. Actually, I'm still so amazed that I have a recipe page on their website. Imagine how excited I was when they asked me to be part of the panel for their big dessert issue two years ago (multiple exclamation points here). Crazy!
My other side jobs would be web-related features for our sister magazines. Haha! I think because I handle our magazine's website, people just assume that I would want to write about the Internet and everything related to it. Hehe! P.S. I can write about other topics too.
One of the major rackets I did was for the Team Azkals magazine last year. It was my first cover story (eep) and it just had to be with the Younghusband brothers (I had a huuuge crush on James when we first shot him for Candy years ago, wahaha!). Then add the fact that I have no sporty bone in my body. I managed to get through the interview part with the help of Mimi and Jo. And thank goodness for my brother, who's a football nut, I was able to understand all the terminology that popped up in my transcription. I was so happy to see the final layout when the pages were being proofed.
It's been a while since I've done an interview so I was actually thrilled when Liz of Yummy asked if I wanted to contribute for an issue. Of course I still got nervous, fumbled nervously through my questions, and had scary thoughts of the recorder conking out midway (must always remember to take notes!). I haven't written the article yet (hehe), but hopefully it'll come out okay. (:
Though I super love my job, I'm glad for all these extra things I get to do on the side. It keeps me from ever getting bored and I get to do stuff with the other magazines I like! Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

A Fantasy
One of my favorite poems by Louise Glück. I miss writing.
I'll tell you something: every day
people are dying. And that's just the beginning.
Every day, in funeral homes, new widows are born,
new orphans. They sit with their hands folded,
trying to decide about this new life.
Then they're in the cemetery, some of them
for the first time. They're frightened of crying,
sometimes of not crying. Someone leans over,
tells them what to do next, which might mean
saying a few words, sometimes
throwing dirt in the open grave.
And after that, everyone goes back to the house,
which is suddenly full of visitors.
The widow sits on the couch, very stately,
so people line up to approach her,
sometimes take her hand, sometimes embrace her.
She finds something to say to everybody,
thanks them, thanks them for coming.
In her heart, she wants them to go away.
She wants to be back in the cemetery,
back in the sickroom, the hospital. She knows
it isn't possible. But it's her only hope,
the wish to move backward. And just a little,
not so far as the marriage, the first kiss.

(Don't) Put Yourself Out There
I have a paper journal that my friend gave me as a birthday present back in 2003. I'm only on page 60, 8 years later. I've never been the type to write every day (I used to blog every minute! I think you call it Twitter nowadays.), but I just kept this in my room for emergency purposes.
The other night, 2 years since my last "entry," I had to write somewhere. Not here where everyone can see, or in LJ, even when locked, I feel like there are still prying eyes. I guess there are still some things I can't share with everybody.

I'm a modern girl, but I fold in half so easily.
I was looking through the latest issue of our magazine, and realized that an entire month ago, I already set my 2009 goal of Doing More as seen in the Editor's Letter page. Haha!
Sadly, I've only baked a few times since. Okay, once. Haha! Last night, I made white chocolate cupcakes with white chocolate cream cheese frosting for my high school classmate's baby shower (she's having a boy!). I colored the frosting, but it turned out to look like a bright teal than a blue. Oh well. Haha! I am planning to do more baking soon. This super yummy recipe in HTEAC is begging to be made! Be still my Nutella-loving little ♥.
And I cheated. I originally wanted to write more, which meant everyday, but I wasn't able to after the 1st. So I went back 2 days ago and wrote for each day that I missed. Recognize the effort! Hahaha!
As for taking more pictures, I'm hoping for sunny skies and awesome beach weather for the weekend. Let's hope the universe conspires to help me be a better me this year. d:

Hulog ng Langit
Ikaw pala aking hinahanap
Ang bahaghari ko sa likod ng ulap
Ikaw ang hulog ng langit sa puso kong napunit
Dahil sa dramang paulit ulit
Kanina ka pa nariyan?
—Ikaw Pala, Sugarfree
Aww, this album is still on repeat even if I only have half an earphone (haha, kawawa talaga.) to listen with.
I wish I could write again. Like really write. The last poem I wrote was for my grandmother when my lolo died, or was it when I last got my heart broken? Whichever came last. I was talking to a good friend of mine and told her that I write best when I'm depressed. Isn't that strange? I guess all sad things always sound beautiful to me.
