Weekend Wind Down

January has been on full speed so far and I'm glad I have today to kind of take it easy. I made Red Velvet cupcakes this morning, an order for a friend celebrating a belated Chinese New Year. Letters to Juliet is on cable right now and I'm enjoying some well-deserved me time before heading out to fulfill my maid of honor duties. In 6 days, my best friend is marrying the love of her life. (:

Someone said that it isn't going to be a very good year for people born on The Year of the Dog (I'm a water dog). And I have to admit, the first four weeks of 2012 haven't exactly been easy. But in the spirit of "happiness is a choice," I am trying to see the good things and hoping for the best.

Starting with: Ending my work week with the Lolas seeing a hilariously cheesy-baduy film, my Red Velvet cupcakes coming out perfect even if my oven's light magically turned itself off, a yummy Saturday breakfast, our book project finally taking shape, the magazine I started working on also slowly but surely moving forward, and I am NOT working from home this weekend. (: See? It isn't so bad after all.

Foodie Finds: All Things Pretty

I met up with my friend Teresa (we share the same birthday!) after almost 2 years of not seeing each other. She told me about this place and she thought it was something I'd like to check out.

It's located at Capitol Hills Golf and Country Club, a place I used to frequent as a kid since my dad used to play golf there. I was surprised to see how much it had changed!

Check out that gorgeous fridge! I want one for my future home. It matches my KitchenAid perfectly.

The staff were all donning Cath Kidston aprons and the tables outside had CK table cloth, too. I loved how everything looked so... shabby chic, for lack of a better description.

Pink, blue, and white all over. They even had a picket fence around the restaurant. Super cute!

While waiting for our orders, we were served popcorn, pretzels, and marshmallows in a pretty pink polka dot mug.

I ordered the Potato Chip Fried Chicken which came with heart-shaped rice. Aww. It was a safe order. I mean, how can you get fried chicken wrong, right? But the gravy was so buttery good that I wiped the sauce dish clean.

We ended the meal with these candies from our childhood. This still remains as one of my favorites!

How-To: Nail Line Art

This was originally a water marbling tutorial, but after 2 failed attempts, I gave up.

Both require the same first step, apply one coat of base coat. I use Sally Hansen's Double Duty Strengthening base & top coat. Doesn't make my nails yellow and it's value for money since you only need one bottle for your base and top coats!

For the marble nails, you'll need a cup of water, your choice of 2 to 3 colors of polish, some tape, and an orange stick (I used a barbecue stick). You can follow the tutorial for marble nails on Refinery29. Here's how mine turned out the first time:

I also tried a red, blue, and purple combination but the polish would dry up too quickly and end up clumpy on my nails. So out came the polish remover.

I finally settled for a solid purple base (I used Forever 21's Love and Beauty polish) and took out my The Face Shop nail art pen in black to do some line art. I pinned a similar design a few weeks ago. My hands aren't that steady, unfortunately so my line art kind of looks jagged, haha! Next time, I'll try using different base colors—and I'll probably pick up another nail art pen in a different color, too.

You only need these three things! It's that simple.

Et voila! Here are my finished nails in the afternoon sun (for dramatic effect, hahaha!).

Baker's Bites: Cookie Fail

I've been obsessing about these melt-in-your-mouth brownie cookies for a while. I had some egg whites left over from making the Chocolate Turtle Pie for New Year's so I tried the recipe over the weekend. They came out chewy and too sweet (I didn't have any dark chocolate around so I used semisweet). Next time, I think I will use more egg whites and lessen the chocolate (maybe just 1 cup).

The only missing ingredient in this picture are the egg whites. Yes, these cookies have no flour at all!

They looked puffy when I took them out of the oven, but quickly deflated. I tried leaving them in the oven longer, but the chocolate cooked too much and turned chewy. I promise to try this again with better results!

New Year's Project: Operation Cleanup

I think the last time I cleaned out my closet and room was 2 years ago. We moved about 2 years ago and I've been in denial since (I still have 2 boxes in my room that remain unopened).

Yesterday, this horrible mess was staring at me. It felt like a challenge and I was finally up to it. Macy vs The Mess, Part 1.

My problem with this closet is I only have a tiny space for clothes on hangers (that small section on the left. As you can see, most of my clothes are on hangers. So I had to figure out which clothes I could fold and keep in neat piles instead.

So I took the pants, jackets, and cardigans off the hangers and folded them. That meant I had closet space for skirts and dresses on hangers!

I managed to keep my doors clear except for one, where I hung my blazers and vests (I've accumulated 6!).

The casualties: add 3 more plastic bags and 2 huge plastic containers to this pile. I really don't know why I keep holding on to things I clearly have no intention of wearing (like these ridiculous velvet pants, for example). These all went into the loving and welcoming arms of our maid, driver, and houseboy, who were all so excited to venture into my makeshift ukay-ukay. Haha!

Now that's done, time to clear the rest of my room of all the neglected beauty products, paper bags that have been sitting gathering dust, and receipts and dress tags I unintentionally collect. 2012, my room will be ready for your junk in no time. Har har!

Creative Productivity

I had an impromptu DIY shoot at my friend Mikko's igloo (she's from Alaska!) yesterday and ended up with 2 pretty neat accessories.

I'll post a link when the how-to is already up on candymag.com. (: These are projects I've been wanting to try for some time now and I'm glad Mix was game to have a craft day despite the short notice.

We worked up an appetite and ended up having chicken sandwiches for a super early dinner. Gone in 60 seconds! We also treated ourselves to some retail therapy and I ended up with yet another striped shirt (still no red and white, but it was on sale for less than P500) and my very first black bandage skirt, both of which are on my "essential" shopping list!

Before heading home, we visited our friend and lucked out because her cute little three-year-old Aaliyah was in a great mood. She was taking our photos, blowing out fake candles, and doing her model walk (complete with beauty queen wave!) all night.

A pretty perfect day if you ask me. (:

In an effort to streamline my closet (although I cannot give up florals, sorry. Haha!), here's my current shopping list. A white shirt with red stripes (I already have a white one with blue stripes and a blue one with white stripes), a silk shirt in white, blue chinos, a black bandage skirt, and nude flats.

Before 2012 rolls around, I'd love to just sit in front of my closet and throw away the stuff I keep saving for I-don't-know-what. If I haven't worn it in a year, I probably won't need it in the next couple of months. Right?

♥ These amazing chocolate cookies I got yesterday. They melt in your mouth and have chocolate bits in every bite. I can't get over them and I'm determined to recreate them!

♥ Trying a new recipe and getting it right! I made red velvet mini-cupcakes for my friend's birthday and my friends loved them.
♥ Waking up just in time for work even if I was up until 2am.

Holiday Rush

Last year, I was super efficient and got my Christmas shopping done at least a month before Christmas. This year, I panic bought gifts on the last weekend before Christmas eve!

I had a plan, though. To get to the mall right when it opens and get out before the madness starts at lunch time. Got to Megamall at 10:30 this morning and was out by 12:30. Not bad, right? I also rewarded myself with a tall glass of Iced Milk Chocolate from Blenz. Yum!

Speaking of rewards, yesterday was the annual Candy Girls Christmas lunch and pseudo exchange gift day. Some people will think, what a corny idea to pick out gifts and just have your "mommy" pay for it, but it's so much fun! I think we've been doing it for 3 years now.

Aside from picking out a present from my mum Marley (a pretty dress from Love, Bayo that I fell in love with the moment I saw it on their lookbook), I got myself a new wallet from Accessorize (they have a buy 1, get 1 promo going on for regular priced items!) and another floral dress from Mango. Both were on sale so I didn't feel too guilty getting a few gifts for myself, haha. Why is it so hard to stop buying stuff for yourself when you're out gift shopping for other people?

I passed out on my bed after shopping this morning so all my plastic bags remain unopened. I still have to wrap them all up before my friend Alyn's birthday party tomorrow. Will bake mini cupcakes for her dessert table, too! Still haven't decided on a flavor, but I'll figure something out tomorrow.

I've been feeling exhausted the past couple of days (multiple orders, late nights, etc etc) but I'm getting excited for the holidays! (:

I don't remember when I stopped obsessing about birthdays. When I suddenly didn't mind that there was no party or that I didn't intentionally make plans for the day. When I forgot that I had to blow out a candle. Or that I had to open gifts.

But I remember how my ordinary birthdays always turn out extra special even when I have nothing planned. I should've known today would be no exception.

All I had planned in my head was to get a trim and hang out with my friends after work. I took a leave and spent all morning catching up on TV shows I missed and having lunch with my dad. Little did I know, a plan (in the making for a month or so!) was waiting to be revealed just hours from that moment.

There was nothing extraordinary about my day. Pizza, pasta, and time with friends was enough for me. Imagine my surprise when I got all that and more.

I'm crying again as I type this, because I'm reminded once again how incredible my life truly is. I have friends who know me well and know exactly what makes me happy. I can't even begin to imagine what I've done to deserve such wonderful, gracious family and friends. I don't know what else to say but thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart that's swelling with joy. I'm so lucky to have you in my life.

That said, Kahlua cupcakes for everyone soon!!!

Sometimes, I can't be bothered to get out of bed, but I'd been sick for 10 days (10 days!) and I was not about to spend another holiday wasting away. I was feeling much better after the concert so I figured maybe a night out won't be so bad.

Figured out a new way to style my hair. I've been obsessing about Kelly Framel's hair since I decided to start growing out my pixie and I attempted to amplify my waves with my flat iron. (: Didn't really stay curled too long, but I'm glad my flat iron will see the light of day again (it was so expensive, ack!).

Headed to a new place that didn't make me feel old. No grinding kids on top of each other (I swear this has happened—and not too long ago!), music I can actually sing along to, and more importantly, no smoking (yet, haha)! Kind of glad I decided to go out dancing with my friends. Worth standing in heels for 5 hours. Haha!

Woke up for lunch today and didn't leave my room again till I needed to go to the bathroom. Thank goodness for the holiday. (:

Can't wait for next weekend. Also, November means I'm turning 29 soon. Twenty-nine. Can you believe it?

I love anything that's set in the '60s. I sometimes kind of wish I was born then. I love the clothes, the hair, the makeup. Which is why it was no surprise that I instantly fell in love with the new show Pan Am.

It sort of reminds me of Mad Men, but with a bit of espionage on the side. I love that they're always in some new place in every episode. My favorite character is Colette. My heart broke for her in last week's episode—especially that scene when she was trying to make her way up the stairs.

I've never had dreams of becoming a flight attendant, but if I were living in the '60s, I probably would have!

Just Like the Ocean Needs the Waves

There's a kiteboarder zipping in and out of the frothy waves. The sea breeze is cool, the sun warm on your face. There's a little girl making sand angels on the shore, picking up shells and throwing them back into the ocean. There's a faint thumping of music from a resort nearby.

It's the same island, a different time. The wind is too strong—they've already set up barriers along the beachfront. The sun is still shining.

The days aren't enough. You wake up early every morning, hoping to catch the sun at its brightest. You lay out and try not to burn. You jump into the water to cool off. The waves jostle you around and you fall on your knee. When you need to leave, you want to stay a little longer. Catch the last rays of light that you can on your almost burnt shoulders, dig your toes a little deeper into the powder-soft sand. It's never enough.

And the only remembrance you get? The faint color on your cheeks and a tiny purple bruise on your right knee.

I remember spending afternoons with my mom, looking at her shelves filled with different shapes, sizes, colors of beads. There were Swarovski crystals of all sizes and colors, quirky beads from India, and glass pearls that looked like real ones. I finally asked Ate Elena and Pedro, our house boy, to unearth this box filled with all the pretty stuff. I have yet to find her wires and chains, but I've found some I can make charm bracelets with. My brother swears by the Katsudon at Shinji Tanaka's recording studio. When I heard about Crazy Katsu, I figured I'd find myself there soon enough. It wasn't until last Saturday, though, that I finally got to check it out.

My friends and I were a bit full from merienda so we just split two orders between us: Chicken Katsu and Katsudon, plus an order of pudding for dessert. It was pretty yummy, but I guess I was expecting a lot based on people's recommendations.

We liked the Chicken Katsu best—it had a bit of kick from the chili and had just the right amount of crunch. The pudding was alright (leche flan!), but the caramel tasted a bit burnt.

I'd probably go back again. Maybe when my tummy isn't too full.

Last Saturday, we headed to the mall for our Candy Cuties mini-mag cover signing. Stephie had a brilliant idea of walking to Subspace Coffee after. I've never been there, but Steph loved it and I was intrigued by the Purple Potato Latte and the Peanut Butter Latte.

I've never been to Korea, but I'm guessing this is about the closest I'll ever get to going. The cafe was cozy and quite interesting. There were upturned chairs hanging from the ceiling (I'll admit I was worried they'd fall on us, haha), a weighing scale, different knick-knacks, and unique-looking chairs (I want the geometric high stools!).

I enjoyed my Peanut Butter Latte, which tasted exactly like melted Peanut Brittle, and my Corned Beef sandwich. Missing in my pictures is Kokita, who made a face when I took her photo. HAHA!

We visited Pipino last week to shoot it for the site. I've been hearing about it from friends, but was kind of worried I wouldn't like it (hardcore carnivore over here). But I went there with an open mind—and an open mouth. Ha!

I loved the handpainted dessert menu, the chalkboard menu on the wall, and the beautiful sunlight streaming in from the windows.

These are just a few of the things we tried, but I'll post a link to our feature once it's up. Can't wait to come back for the mushroom salpicao and Portobello Burger. Sooo good!

Hoping for sunny skies for the next four weekends. I'm going on a trip with the Candy Girls two weeks from now. I badly need color on my skin (I'm so pale!) so a little sun won't hurt. The Candy Fair is happening the week after and we all don't want another Ondoy to happen. Then on the last weekend of September, I'm attending one of my good friends' sister's wedding. It'll be on the beach! Plus, I don't have anything to wear to that yet! Eep. I wish one of these dresses would magically appear in my closet.

My family usually tags along with my dad's brother's family (that's a lot of apostrophes) on long weekends to Tagaytay, but this time we didn't have any plans. Most of our friends already had plans (or work, boo!) so it was just me, Laika, and Mikko. Fun times as always: painting our nails, our favorite crepes, a new resto, and impromptu "shopping" at Mix's igloo.

I think the next time we hang out, we should bring extra clothes so we can play Fruit Ninja or Dance Central. Haha! We always just end up sitting around and eating, which is totally fun but not good for our metabolism. :))

Hopefully the weather makes up its mind (woke up to a really sunny morning then the rain just came crashing down again) so we can visit Mommy today.

I was supposed to meet up with my friends this morning to go on a trip to Divisoria, but Jenn got a migraine last night so we had to cancel. So I asked the rest of my barkada if they were still up to watching Babae sa Septic Tank today. There were also plans of Kinect and lazing around with Kaich and Patty, but I don't think that's pushing through either.

So from so many plans, I am down to no plans. And that's alright, because I'm in the middle of reading 3 books (it's a mystery I haven't mixed up the characters of Sisterhood Everlasting, One Day, and Before Ever After). I also just finished "working," scheduling 3 days worth of Facebook posts (I really do love HootSuite). Just one more event tonight for work (My Fitness Pal won't be too happy) and hello, weekend.

Went to the launch of Samantha Sotto's book Before Ever After with Marla and Mia last week. I read up about her story and how she got published by Random House (OH MY WOW!) and got so inspired. I started her book and I still can't believe that she just started writing all of it after watching The Time Traveler's Wife and then spending most mornings in a coffee shop while waiting to pick up her kid after school. A-mazing! Makes you believe that dreams really do come true and that the first step towards making them come true is taking action!

Sometimes, it's so much easier to shop online. There are so many sellers on Multiply and on Facebook, and all you really need to do is click on stuff.

But even then, it can be confusing to remember all those different websites to get different items: tops, dresses, pants, skirts, shoes, bag, accessories... the list goes on!

That's where The Mall comes in. The latest in e-shopping, The Mall used to be just a section in Preview's official website Stylebible.ph. Now, it's an entire site, where you can choose from different online vendors. You know what my favorite part is? You can add stuff to "your closet" and create outfits from those items! I got a sneak peek at the site and got to try it out.

Actually, I admit it and embrace my chocoholic-ness wholeheartedly. I'm no chocolate snob. It doesn't matter if it costs P15 or as much as P1,500. If it's good chocolate, I'll eat it and love it just the same.

My love affair with chocolate started at a very young age. I remember Christmas in Marikina when I was a kid. My kuya and I would have our stockings filled with all kinds of chocolate and candy. I remember those blocks of chocolate wrapped in gold paper—some had pinipig, some had nuts. There were also chocolate coins, which tasted so good.

I graduated to Mr. Goodbar, Krackel, Barnone (the best chocolate bar EVER, bar none—DUH), Alpine White, KitKat, and Ferrero Rocher.

Of course, I also had local favorites like Serg's (RIP, sniff), Goya, and Choki Choki (which I used to have in my mouth 24/7, not kidding).

My most recent finds: Goya Chunky (I like the white one with cashews best), KitKat Orange, and M&M Pretzels (if any of you are coming from abroad, please bring me home a giant bag of this. I will pay you, of course!).

When I was at Yummy Eats a couple of months ago, I came across Risa Fine Bespoke Chocolates. We tried their truffles and my favorites were the ones with orange and Cerveza Negra. Since my friend Koko is friends with the owners, I was able to order through her a Cuadro in Tiramissyou. A block costs P280.

What's in it? It's white chocolate with a creamy center and is covered in cocoa powder just like tiramisu. I would have liked a stronger coffee flavor (I'm not sure there even is?), but I liked it enough to order twice. I can only have one piece at a time and I think it's perfect with a cup of coffee.

I'm not yet sure what I want to try next, but I'm thinking of trying the other flavors of Cuadro. The one with almonds looks really good!

This feels like a longer week than it is, but I'm looking forward to hump day! A long meeting then a movie that will totally remind me of high school. I just know I'll love it.

The Boy Who Was Loved

I was in high school when the books first came out. I didn't pay much attention to them until the paperbacks were in stock. My brothers and I have the first four books. The rest, I managed to borrow from friends, read on my computer, or both.

I know a lot of fans are very particular about how the books are translated into films, but I've always enjoyed all the films—missing scenes (and added ones, for that matter). I think the experience of reading the book and watching the film are two entirely different things.

That being said, I didn't know how to feel about the last film in this franchise. On one hand, I was excited to see how it would all unravel onscreen. But at the same time, my heart was hurting because this was a story I had followed for more than a decade!

One of the scenes I was looking forward to was Snape's memory. I loved reading that part in the book. And though it was reduced to minutes on film, I still think it was one of my favorite parts of the movie. Another favorite: Helena Bonham Carter as Hermione Granger.

A scene that got to me (more than I expected it to) was when Harry finally gets to open the Snitch in the Forbidden Forest. Kind of wish I had my own resurrection stone to bring back my loved ones. ):

There were some things I wish they had included, but I think that it was necessary. The movie was just right at about 2 hours-long. And seeing it in IMAX is a whole other experience. It's the only film done entirely in 3D so it's worth seeing in that medium.

I can't believe it's all over. Now excuse me while I go back and find my books and get lost in Hogwarts again.

The Greatest Show On Earth

In the summer of 1997, I was part of the circus. Well, at least it was a Cirque du Soleil-inspired showcase of Pippin. (: With our costumes from the Repertory Philippines stock room and makeup by National Bookstore (glitters stuck to our face with eye putty by theater actresses), we did a show in the midst of a typhoon. Ever since, I've always dreamed of catching a Cirque show live.

Last night, I finally got a chance to step inside the Grand Chapiteau and witness my first ever Cirque du Soleil show. A few months ago, we had the privilege of seeing a 15-minute preview of Varekai and I was completely floored. We got to see the Icarian Games and the Solo on Crutches. I knew that I just had to see this live.

Fast forward to last night, after being stuck in traffic for more than 2 hours, I was prepared to be amazed. My friends Binky and Mikko had seen other Cirque shows prior to this one so I knew that they were more than happy to accompany me. Mikko, who has seen 4 shows already, says this was the one she enjoyed the most. We got the "cheapest" seats in the house, but by some miracle, we got moved closer to the stage when we got inside the tent. (:

I was like a little kid ooh-ing and ahh-ing at every act. My Top 3 favorites would be:

Aerial Hoop. Hanging on a hoop with just your flexed toes? Who does that?! A-mazing!

Triple Trapeze. I think anything suspended in air is bound to leave your jaw hanging open. But I loved these four girls who seemed to move like they were just one person.

Handbalancing on Canes. She was so graceful yet strong at the same time. Her movement was so fluid, you'd think she had no bones in her body!

And of course, the Russian Swings were just something else. Everyone in the audience was screaming at each loop de loop and each tumble. My heart was in my throat each time.

I'm so happy I got to see this. Now, I can't wait to see other Cirque du Soleil shows!

Gratitude List

There are tons to be thankful for these days. And I've missed making lists like this!

♥ Shopping with fake money. I got the top I've been looking at for months plus a pretty new dress for technically just P45.
♥ Leaving my camera at home and dancing the night away. I usually bring my cam to concerts so I can take photos and videos, but this time around, I decided to just leave it. I didn't realize how much fun it is to be in nosebleed seats. We had our own party there.
♥ Getting free tickets and giving them away. It turns out I was given tickets to Cirque's show last night, but I gave them to Mimi and Dyan. (: Spreading the magic!
♥ Catching a pilot. Saw the first episode of Teen Wolf yesterday. My friends have been telling me to watch it already, but I haven't had a chance to. Now, I can catch it on TV. It premieres on July 17, 9pm on AXN.
♥ Chocolate! I got myself another Cuadro from Risa Fine Bespoke Chocolates. I've gotten Tiramissyou twice already and I'm thinking of getting assorted truffles next. I also got a pack of KitKat Mint from the grocery the other day. They are delicious!
♥ Letters. Got a surprise from Em through my brother. Loved the retro stickers and stationery!
♥ Things from my mom. Funny how almost 3 and a half years have passed and she still continues to "give" me stuff. I found a black sheer maxi skirt in my closet with tags that have yellowed from age. My non-fancy jewelry are all courtesy of her. Bringing them out reminds me of our afternoons together, visiting the Asedillos and picking out charms for my bracelet.

I finally tried Wicked Kitchen with my former officemates. I wanted to try the Beef and Beer Pie, but they said it would take 20-30 minutes (what!?). It was already 9pm and I was hungry for 2 hours already. Decided to order the Crispy Bagoong Rice, which thankfully did not disappoint! Also tried their take on a pizookie: Gluttony, a giant chocolate chip cookie topped with a scoop of Mantecado ice cream. It was pretty good, but I think I can make it on my own. It just made me miss my oven more! ):

When I was in high school, my friends and I took a summer workshop at Repertory Philippines. Our showcase was Pippin inspired by Cirque du Soleil. Our teachers Michael Williams and Rem Zemora showed us a recording of a show and ever since, I've always dreamed of catching a show live. Thanks to my friends Mikko and Binky (they both watched LOVE in Las Vegas) for indulging me. We're catching it this Friday! Despite the "cheap seats" (those tickets don't come cheap, eep), I am so excited!

I don't really wear makeup every single day, but when I do, it's really simple. Just powder, blush, a swipe of mascara, and winged liner (which is the only kind of eye makeup I've mastered, I think).

After applying moisturizer (I've been using Garnier Light for a while now. I'm thinking of going back to Neutrogena after I finish this jar), I put Avon's Simply Pretty pressed powder in Natural (01). I know this is supposed to be for teens but I love it because even when I'm tanned or not, the color looks the same one me. Plus, it's really cheap! Then I put a bit of Majolica Majorca's Puff de Cheek in Peach Macaron (02), which doesn't look too bright on my cheeks. I usually stop at this point and just curl my lashes and add a coat of clear mascara (03). I use Penshoppe Pop. But if I'm attending an event or meeting my friends after work, I add a coat of Majolica Majorca's Lash Expander in Brown (03) and line my eyes close to the lash line with either Etude House's Proof 10 liner in Brown (04) or Majolica Majorca's Cream Eye Pencil in Bitter Brown (05). For my lips, I usually just put lip balm. My current fave is Ganache for Lips Chocolate Orange (07), which was a gift from my friend Marla. I top with either Estee Lauder's Rose Tea (06) or The Body Shop's Delipscious in Sheer Saffron (08).

That wasn't so exciting, I know. Haha! But I'm trying to expand my makeup know-how and products starting with a shade of red that won't look strange on my weirdly-shaped lips. I'll let you know if I find one!

I love breakfast. I can eat it three times a day. My breakfast staples: bread, peanut butter, Nutella, and coffee (iced or hot depending on the weather). Also, garlic rice, sunny side up, and any choice of the following: corned beef with diced potatoes, crispy bacon in maple syrup, or tuna in various sauces (the canned variety).

A few weeks ago, I had the honey glazed bacon and eggs from Figaro (which recently opened in our building so we're no longer kawawa in the coffee shop sense). Would have loved it even more if the bacon was a lot crispier. But I guess I love it enough because I've had it twice since.

Yesterday, on our breakfast table was a plate of sunny side up eggs and sweet ham. I was ready to grab the loaf of bread and smother it with peanut butter and Nutella but I decided to recreate the honey glazed bacon and eggs dish from Figaro. Instead of bacon, though, I had to make do with the ham.

It's really as easy as 1, 2, 3: Grab a piece of bread (you can toast it in the oven if you like), put a piece of ham (perfect for the bread since it's square!), and plop a sunny side up right on top. And because I like eating neatly (haha), I decided to slice up my food in equal parts. Okay, you don't need to do that.

Bottomless Pits: A Day of Endless Eating

I'm not a very fit person. I like to eat and I will eat anything and everything if I want to. I exercise only so I have an excuse to indulge in all my favorite food. That said, I don't think I can ever go on a diet. O:

So when my friends Koko, Mimi, and Stephie said they were heading to Yummy Eats, I invited myself. Haha! It was going to be a day filled with good food and who in their right mind would pass up the opportunity? Definitely not me.

Personally, if I could, I'd have both!

There were so many food stalls, we didn't know what to try first. But this guy just stood in our way and practically shoved a spoon of ice cream into our mouths. But I'm glad he did because Holly's Milk's Salted Caramel ice cream was A+! I was too full to grab myself a cup before heading out, but I'd gladly buy a gallon or two! The tent was divided into Sweet Street and Savory Street. You can probably guess what street we traversed first. Hehehe.

I liked most of what we tried and bought some of Bean & Baker's Orange Vanilla Biscotti to take home. (: I had some with coffee this morning for my second breakfast (haha!). I would've loved to try the Tiramissyou from Risa's Chocolates but it was going to be a long day and I knew for sure it would just melt in the car. I really liked the truffles with Orange and Cerveza Negra.

Koko got us Balamban Liempo and Big Daddy's Chicken (the plum-flavored one was yum-o!) for "lunch" as if all our sampling wasn't enough. I would've gotten myself a bottle of the herbed cream cheese dip (so good!) but I was scared I wouldn't have enough money for the rest of the day. Oh, to be non-rich. Silver lining: won Alfajores from Kusina Teatro in the raffle! Thumbs up all around to the staff of Yummy for a super successful event! Hope there's another one next year! (:

Headed to Heima in LRI Design Plaza so Koko could check out the new collection. The tote I wanted was a bit too pricey for me so I split this button pin set with Mim and Koko. I got the "What's Up?" pin with a bow to match the "What's Up?" pin with a mustache that Mimi gave me. (:

And as if we hadn't had enough food, we checked out The Room Upstairs that was in the same building as Heima. We split the Assorted Bruschetta, Tuyo Pasta, and Vigan Longganisa sandwich among us. They tried the lemon grass iced tea while I had an iced caramel macchiato (so good!).

We checked out the SuperSale bazaar at Rockwell after and guess what, the eating wasn't over yet! We parked our butts in one of our fave hangouts, Chili's! Split an order of Chicken Crispers (our fave!) with Mim and bottomless chips with cheese and beef.

Surprisingly, I was actually not full at the end of the day! Can you believe it?! But I was really sleepy. Haha! We were kidding that if the world were really to end that day, at least we'd die happy and full. (:

Today we celebrate my dad's 57th birthday. My mom would've been 58.

My dad asked me to invite his brothers and sister to lunch today a couple of days ago. But with the fight and my cousin's badminton tournament going on, we ended up celebrating tonight for dinner.

I love it when family comes over. We eat simple, good food. Talk over dessert and wine (well, they drink). Laugh. Eat a bit more. We used to do this every Sunday and now, it only happens when there's a birthday or a holiday.

Tonight, I gave my cousin tickets to the Justin Bieber concert for her birthday. They're not particularly great seats but the look on her face when I handed her that envelope: priceless. Her face frozen with excitement, three words: OH MY GOD, and big tight hug.

Ah, I love my family.

Last Tuesday, we headed to seven different stores for a shoot. These pretty things caught my eye when we entered Team Manila.

I got the Milk Chocolate with Pili and Pinipig and the Milk Chocolate with Organic Batangas Barako Coffee. Good stuff. They're a bit pricey at P95 a bar but I'd gladly buy another one!

My friend swears the dark chocolate with siling labuyo is the best but I don't like spicy things in my chocolate!

I'm still alive! Didn't realize I haven't blogged for over a month—going on two in a couple of weeks. Whoops.

What happened to me?

Chopped off my locks—twice!

Painted my nails 3 different shades.

Had Pumpkin Ravioli and Banana Amaretto French Toast from Borough in Podium. So good. I can't wait to go back.

Got a few gifts from friends. <3

Went on 2 weekend getaways with the lolas. (:

I thought I had completely recharged myself but as soon as I got back from the beach, my throat was scratchy and my nose was dripping. Ugh. After a weekend of working, I decided to stay home today and rest. But because I can't seem to help it, I keep refreshing my office email just in case I need to send something to someone. How's that for fake leave?

Still, I'm looking forward to another working weekend. Just need to get better so I can enjoy it!

La Créperie

This week was basically this: deadlines, shoots, surprise presentations. But there is much to be grateful for so no complaints here. (:

After a long week of work, I decided to tag along with Stephie when she got her nails done (I ended up getting a foot spa, too). We had some crepes before heading home (on a very creepy cab ride, but that's an entirely different story).

Steph had the Picarde (2 kinds of cheese—Emmental and Gruyere, mustard, garlic and tomato) while I got the Nami (herbed goat cheese, caramelized onions, and mushrooms). This is the first time I had a savory crepe and it was pretty good! I liked how the cheese oozed out of the crepe when I sliced into it. Mmm.

You can actually order from the FIC ice cream bar for dessert if you like but we felt gross just thinking about it (TBH, I really wanted that Banana Caramel Crunch, though). So we opted to create our own dessert crepe: Nutella + bananas + a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Perfect end to our meal!

Their crepes tasted better than I remember. I'm definitely going back to try the other savory crepes. (:

Fried Oreos are Oh-some!

I've been wanting to try making my own version of fried Oreos but I never found the time. This morning, after discovering we didn't have flour and milk in the fridge, I asked Ate Elena to buy some so we could make these beauties.

I smothered mine with whipped cream and Nutella. SO GOOD.

You can just buy pancake mix and dip the Oreos before frying. We made our own mix, though, using a recipe from All Recipes. They'd be even yummier with vanilla ice cream, but we don't have any right now. I'm thinking if you spread peanut butter in the middle of the Oreo before frying, they would probably be super good, too!

How Old Am I Really?

Yesterday, after an impromptu dinner at BonChon (I had 7 wings with a cup of rice!), my friends and I popped by Rockwell for a bit. Koko wanted to check out Muji and got even more excited when I said that me and Mim had never been there. I wasn't going to buy anything, I knew that. I had mentally prepared myself to go "ooh" and "ahh" at all the pretty pens and then just walk out. But even before we got to Muji, Koko stopped by one of the arcades to check out the capsule toys. Guess who came home with a 100-peso toy watch? HAHAHA!

Doesn't it remind you of the ones you used to have as a kid? All of the designs were actually cute but I wasn't sure if it would fit me. But if it didn't, I was prepared to give it to my nieces. Look who wore it right after buying it? Isn't it the cutest? Don't laugh but I kind of want to get the other 4 designs, too. d: And I would if I could choose but I don't want to end up with 4 of the same kind.

These days, my point and shoot hasn't really seen the light of day. Stashed inside my bag's secret compartment, I actually go a week without taking it out of its pouch. I've been taking lots of pictures with utagai, though. Thanks to Hipstamatic, Incredibooth, Blendcam, and Instagram.

2011 has been off to a great start. I'm putting my new notebook and markers to use and I'm determined not to miss a day. I've discovered a new favorite treat. I've been eating good food (not necessarily healthy, but good!). Finding new ways to wear old things in my closet. Meeting up with friends I haven't seen in years!

Time to get down to serious business. I'm excited. (:

Eager Beaver, 2011 Edition

Most people were dreading their first day back at work. I was mostly bummed at the fact that I couldn't use the computer while lying on my tummy. Work never really feels like work for me because I do practically the same thing on vacation: surf! The only difference is, I actually upload stories online at work.

But that's not the point of my entry. I just want to show you another reason why I was so excited to go back to work: my new office supplies!

Goodies from my birthday and Christmas. I love that my friends are equally obsessed with paper products and office supplies. The Candy Girls gave me my second Teneues planner by Hanna Werning. They were worried I wouldn't like the zebras, but I actually do! Last year's planner had bunnies and deer. (: My former boss Ines gave me the dolphin paper clips (so cute!). The sticky notes set is from Mark♥Barb. I love it! I was thinking of getting myself another design when we went to National Bookstore's Work Station launch but I'm glad I didn't because this pattern is so me! Thank you!

I got these cutesy sticky notes on a trip to Fully Booked with the Candy Girls. Hee. I have another Parisian-themed set but I thought these animals went perfectly with my planner. Donchathink?

How cute is my new mousepad??? Thank you, Margs!!! (: When I opened it, I let out a squeal. She wasn't kidding when she kept asking me to open it already because she said it was so me. Here's my planner finally broken in: my first, uh, plan for the year. And I'm using a pen now instead of pencil because wala lang. That way deadlines, dates, plans are final because using white out is just going to make my planner ugly.

I can't wait to make plans for 2011!

Happy Holidays

Two years since the first. First in this new old home. And I'm happy to report that this Christmas was not necessarily the loneliest one without you.

It's been a while since I got excited about Christmas. Buying presents, wrapping gifts, preparing Noche Buena (although I can't take credit for that. It was all All-Around Pedro). We heard Mass as a family—something that happens maybe twice a year (Christmas and New Year's). We had two rounds of dinner, after Church and at midnight. Opened gifts before the clock struck 12 because Dad was getting sleepy (even after napping for 2 hours!).

We had family over for Christmas lunch and I was relieved that there were lots of extra hands to help out with cleaning the dishes (probably the only chore I absolutely hate!).

Last night I grated half a Queso de Bola and mixed it with a little bit of unsalted butter. I was attempting this but I don't think I put enough butter. But I am now a QdB convert because after another exhausting morning in the kitchen, I rewarded myself with another piece of QdB toast with coffee.

Also, I found a tube of lipstick (Shiseido's Warm Cocoa) sitting on my bed's headboard and tried it on last night. Hahaha! I don't think I'll ever wear it out but I thought it looked pretty nice post-Instagram.

Life is good and I can't complain. We have a roof over our heads, food to fill our tummies, and each other. How was your Christmas? (:

Now let me go back to my Words with Friends game with the drummer of one of my favorite bands. You think if I win I can bargain for another MAE show in Manila? This time, I promise I won't miss more than half of it!

My Most Fashionable Obsession Yet

I'm not one of those girls who are obsessed with designer bags. Not even designer anything. I don't line up outside stores to get my hands on a collection that's being launched on the same day. I don't know what's wrong with me. Hahaha.

Until I met the most fashionable bunny. I forget who introduced me to her. It was probably Teen Vogue or a random link on some random blog that I stalk. I had her blog bookmarked and found myself looking forward to each post, which is funny since all she wears are designer duds. Something I've never really paid much attention to.

When she posted her tees, I asked my friend Mikko to order for me and I'd pay her when she came home to visit. Then, when Forever 21 opened their first store in Manila, I was thrilled when they brought in Fifi Lapin apparel. I went as far as having a Gelaskin customized (thank you, Tatin!) so that my iPod would have fashionable Fifis all over. I used her blog's footer and just tiled the pattern on Photoshop. Tatin made sure my favorite (the one in heart-shaped glasses) was in front and in the middle of the Gelaskin. (:

Now, whenever I spot a Fifi Lapin print on anything, I buy it. I wish I had better self-control. But yesterday, while I was browsing Kids of Bayo for a present for one of my goddaughters/baby cousins, I zoomed in on the FUNctional rack at the back of the store. I thought it was just some random bunny notebook. "Bunny Kisses" and "What Shall I Wear Today?" were unmistakably Fifi, though. I asked the girl at the counter if they sold the notebook separately (it was part of a set that had an erasable marker, a Hello Miffy pen, and correction tape). After all, what was I going to do with the rest of the stuff? Come to think of it, what am I going to do with the notebook, anyway? Hahaha. But my lowest of low EQ got the best of me and walked out of the store with a dress (the gift) and that set. I regret nothing because look how pretty the notebook is.

I really think I have to go to Fifi Lapin rehab soon.I can't stop! What about you? What can't you get enough of?

She's Making a List

My family is known as The Last Minute Shoppers. We'd shop for gifts on the eve of Christmas (yes, as in December 24. I'm not kidding.). I don't remember why we did this, but I think it was some twisted notion that there are less people shopping at that time (not true).

But this morning, I headed over to the mall with my friend Mimi (who taught me something about Christmas lists—print them on a spread sheet! Genius!) to get some Christmas shopping done. I loaded my list into my iPod (Woohoo! Purchase justified just a little more) and proceeded to update the file whenever I found something for someone (filed in neat columns: name, present, price).

I'm only halfway done but I can't wait to head to the mall again and tick off names from my check list. So amazing that this gadget, which I initially decided to buy because of Incredibooth (I know, I know), is actually super functional! d:

I finally changed the oh-so-creative Macy's iPod to utagai. Named it after my favorite Audrey Kawasaki print. It means "uncertainty" in Japanese. I wasn't really sure about getting it for myself (I've never really spent so much on a gadget) and we weren't really sure we were going to be able to buy it so soon. So yeah. Nameless gadget named!

Good Eats and the Good Things

And just like that, it's four days until December. Where did 2010 go? This week felt so long yet whizzed by just like that. I ate so much this week, I believe my stomach is hurting now because I overexerted it. Ugh.

Tomorrow will hopefully be a successful shopping trip for presents. I am on a mission to tick off all of those names on my list (which I will actually print out on a spreadsheet—inspired by super managing editor Mimi, haha). And I shall sneak in some yummy things (as if this week was not enough for my tummy) in between.

And also Belle & Sebastian's "12 Days of Christmas." And "Baby, It's Cold Outside" from the Elf sound track. Okay, maybe it's safe to say, I like all of the songs. I've got a few more from Sufjan Stevens and Belle & Sebastian but you can't upload more than 1 track from the same artist on 8tracks.

This four-day week was tiring as hell but it was quite fun.

Monday started out with a field trip down South. I've always associated the South with the cemetery because that's where my Mom's parents and siblings are buried. The last time I went there, I got into a huge fight with my Mom because... well, I was being a brat. I have a horrible family picture to prove it—with my scowl in the foreground. Harrr. Buuut this trip was nothing like that. Ramen and Cheese Gyoza, Serenitea, Zombieland, M&M Pretzels, and my brand new toy.

Tuesday was a holiday and although I love staying home, sometimes mid-week holidays are strange. You get the "weekend is over" feeling twice in one week! I had my nails painted and stamped with a pretty lace-like pattern. Will write about it for our site soon. I can't stop staring at it and I'm being extra careful with my hands so my polish won't chip.

Wednesday was a terribly busy day. A cover shoot in the morning (the model was great so we were finished in record time) and a round table interview with David Archuleta (who is possibly the most adorable boy in the world!). Then there was a wonderful surprise because we got to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in IMAX (thanks to the wonderful people at WB!). I loved it! And Dobby certainly wins best house-elf in a supporting role, hands down. I have mixed feelings about July. Excited, because I want to see the second half. Sad, because it really is over. I want to re-read all the books, but I only have the first four. HAHA, the rest I read on my computer. O:

Thursday was quite busy but uneventful. Except for my ride home, which freaked me out. The cab I got was old and the driver was sick (he opened the door to spit—IN THE MIDDLE OF EDSA WHILE WE WERE GOING AT FULL SPEED). The car stopped in the middle of the road and he had to fill up the tank with gas from a mineral water bottle. I clutched my rosary and bottle of Holy Water (my boss's pasalubong from her trip to Europe) the entire way home. Then when I paid the driver P200, he gave me P270 for my change! I returned the P100 and he said sorry. He must've felt how incredibly anxious I was.

Yesterday, I had my first ever Wee Nam Kee experience. We tried the Chicken Rice with steamed and roast chicken. 2 kinds of kangkong (I liked the one with crispy garlic bits—I had three small servings!) and cereal prawns. I'm definitely going back, but maybe when the hype has died down and it won't be too hard to get a table.

Today, I woke up at 5am like an old woman. And I think it's going to be a good day. (:

Touchy Feely

Not too long ago, I posted on Facebook that I wanted a white iPhone 4 or the new iPod Touch for my birthday. It was part wish and part declaration—and I knew I was going to get it one way or another.

A few weeks ago, my friend told me she was selling gadgets for a lot less than retail prices. Roch and I didn't even think about it and placed our orders for the iTouch 4th Gen (64G). A few days later, my friend told me the bad news that they'd run out of stocks for the 64G model and they didn't know when the supplies would be replenished. We were already resigned to the fact that we'd have to wait when her brother got us each an iPod at the Apple Store. We asked him to return the gadgets because they cost almost P20k each! Eep. Then just two weeks ago, we ordered from Amazon (well, Roch did. I have no idea about online shopping anything) and it was delivered to her brother's friend's house on my birthday (my birthday!). And yesterday...

Can you say giddy? Hahaha. My friend caught all of it on camera but I'm too embarrassed to post all the pictures here. This I-won-an-award photo will have to do!

I'm proud to say I did get some sleep (slept a little bit after midnight—but woke up at 6:30. I am such an old person) but that might be because my battery ran low. Hehehe.

I was excited to sync it with my computer and transfer all (yes, ALL!) my music but apparently, this jurassic computer's iTunes needs to be updated first (and it's taking FOREVER!). So until then, I shall try to get 3 stars on Level 1-21 of Cut the Rope.

I ♥ My Driving Queens

These girls were my constants in college. I love them and I'm glad they planned this weekend for me. I missed all four of us together and this weekend was the best!

This is the longest birthday celebration I've ever had. And it's not even done yet! Celebrating with my fellow Candy Novembers on Wednesday! I can't wait! (: Hope y'all had an awesome weekend, too!

Dinner with my Girlfriends

When I turned 16, I had a party at my house. My mom cooked food and had them lined up on a long table in these fancy-looking chafing dishes. All my friends came and we ended up walking to the park right before everyone left.

This became some sort of tradition since. I'd celebrate my birthday every year with the same chafing dishes and walk to the park. I had the best memories looking back at those parties. I have a stack of photos from one of my parties and we apparently passed them around in class and doodled notes at the back. My friends always remembered how we'd all troop down to the village park before they headed home.

A couple of years ago, I was heartbroken and didn't feel like throwing a party. That and my mom was already sick. My friends decided not to break the tradition and planned a surprise dessert party for me. I had the most cakes I've ever had in my life on that day. It was amazing and I felt so loved.

This year, we just all headed to the mall and had dinner and coffee after work. Nothing extraordinary but it was great!

We tried a new restaurant and although there were a few hits and misses (don't order the paella if you're expecting, well, paella), I enjoyed my Salpicao Fried Rice. (:

I used to be the one to arrange our weekly dinners but somewhere along the past year, I kind of stopped. I got busy with work and for the first time in my life, I actually forget to reply to people's messages! Eep.

My friends say there must be something about my birthday because no matter what, we all come together for it. Even if I've stopped having parties or we can't go to the village park anymore, I know that when I ask my friends if we can have dinner, they'll make time for it.

We weren't complete but this is actually the most people we've had in a long while. <3

Oh, and of course we had cake!

What an awesome birthday. (: And it's not over yet! I'm headed out this afternoon to have a slumber party with my college best buds. And then I'm coming home to a family lunch on Sunday. Life is good. Hope you all have a good weekend! (:

My Menagerie

I don't remember when I got so fascinated with giraffes and owls. All I know is that I now have 3 owl necklaces, 2 giraffe necklaces, 1 giraffe ring, 1 owl ring, 1 owl shirt, and 1 owl pouch.

The two newest additions to my humble collection: a sparkly giraffe necklace (Forever 21) that I couldn't put down even after my self-imposed shopping ban and the purdiest owl ring (cache cache) from my boss. Funny how I was just looking at the exact same ring last Saturday but I didn't buy it because I just got the giraffe necklace. I guess all things just work out in the end. d:

Old Friends

I love getting together with old friends. You just pick up from where you left off and it's like those months of not seeing each other didn't really happen.

I met up with Em, Mika, and Stephie over the weekend to eat unhealthy food (sorry, Em!) and catch up. Would you believe me if I told you I met all of them on the Internet? Because I kind of did. (:

If you read my sidebar, you'll know that I've had a site since 1997 and I've been blogging (manually before Blogger, haha!) since then, too. My friends didn't understand why I had a site or why I had all these friends online. "What do you talk about? Isn't it weird?" were some of their questions. I don't remember what I told them. To be honest, I think these people I would talk with everyday, these people who read my thoughts through LiveJournal, knew more about me than my friends who I'd see once a week. It doesn't seem strange at all now that we've crossed the line from talking to each other through screens to actually talking to each other face-to-face.

Which is not to say I don't love my friends—the ones I've known even before I owned a computer much less knew anything about the Net. I do! But all I'm saying is I don't have offline and online friends. They're all... well, friends.

Anyway, the point is—if I ever had a point—it was great getting together with them, laughing about the same things, talking about what's been going on, updating each other about any progress in anyone's life, and then making plans to do it again. I super enjoyed and can't wait 'til the next time!

Soupy Dumplings

I don't like soupy dumplings. Or at least that's what I remember. I just tried it when my friend Mimi brought some as her baon. I think I may have confused it with the sauce, which had a very strong ginger taste. Maybe that's why I always thought I didn't like it.

So last week, I went to this new place that supposedly has good soupy dumplings. I wasn't looking forward to it, but I was looking forward to yummy Chinese food. I was with Mimi and Stephie who both had eaten in the resto, here and abroad. I've never been, period. We got there a little past 11am and we already had to take a number. But the wait wasn't that long and we were in our booth seats in maybe 15 minutes.

They did the ordering save for the Chicken with Cashew Nuts in Spicy Sauce because I like anything with cashews and I was curious. We got the Crispy Eel (sweetand crunchy!), this noodle soup with a peanut-y broth (I removed the spring onions and wansoy that came with the spoon. Ick.), and of course, Xiao Long Bao.

The tray of soupy dumplings arrived steaming hot! But I didn't bite into it until in the middle of the meal so some of the soup might have either evaporated or got absorbed into the meat. I decided to skip the sauce and the verdict is: I like soupy dumplings just not with that ginger sauce. I had two despite my already hard tummy (note to self: stop eating when your stomach is as hard as your forehead, hehehe). And I wouldn't mind having just that. And maybe the chicken because I liked it a lot even if it was a bit spicy.

I was stuffed and didn't even get to finish the noodle soup. We split the bill among the 3 of us and it came out around P350 for each of us. I say not bad! I didn't even have dinner that night anymore because I was too full. That, and well, I had a large cup of Hokkaido. Heh.

My friend Mikko from Alaska has always been an enabler. She gave me a domain on my birthday and paintedcloud.com was born. When that expired, she hosted me under her domain that changed names over time. Whenever I'd want to order something online, she'd offer to get it for me and then I'd pay her when she'd come home to visit. We'd fuel each others' dreams of building a bake shop (mine) and a bookstore (hers) and promise that we'd build it someday.

When she told me that she and Tita Tocy (her mom who showers me with such generous baking presents) were putting together a small package for me, I got excited for cupcake liners. That's it. When her cousin told me that the package was ready to be picked up from their house, I asked the driver to drop by for it after he brought my brothers to work.

He arrived with a larger than normal shoebox plus a plastic bag of cupcake liners (so pretty!). I was wondering, what else could be inside the box? I had to go to work but I couldn't resist not peeking. I pulled out a dress, 2 skirts, plus a bunch of Ziploc-ed accessories. I was nowhere near unpacking even half of it. My dad was laughing at me because I couldn't contain my excitement. I put everything back and said, "I'm going to do this tonight so I can savor it!" Hahaha.

So I went to work, had yummy Chinese food, got a pretty surprise from my friend at the shoot, had my favorite milk tea from Serenitea, and COULD. NOT. WAIT. TO. GO. HOME.

I carefully unpacked each item and took a pic (haha). I wasn't going to post the pics but I had a hard time finding the stuff online, hehe. Can't wait to wear everything (I'd wear them all together if I could!). This should curb my shopping urges for a while, right? I should keep reminding myself. d:

Got some cute new spatulas plus pretty cupcakes liners, too! My dad had my oven checked out and sadly we have to wait for the service center to check if they've still got parts for it. Apparently, it's an old model that's already been phased out. Please cross your fingers, toes, and eyes that it can still be fixed. I want to bake again!

Anyway, you guys have an awesome weekend. (:

Two Movies in a Row

I used to be The Girl Who Watches Movies on TV. I'd literally wait for movies to be shown on HBO rather than watch them in the cinema. It's not really by choice. Most of the time, I don't have anyone to watch them with. Besides, watching a movie while you're on your bed without anyone else in the room is not so bad. You won't have to sit through two hours of someone who keeps kicking your seat from the back (haaate when that happens!).

Anyway, I got to see two movies this week: Due Date and You Again. So I am now The Girl Who Catches Movies in Cinemas Once in a While. (:

Due Date was hilaaarious. Even from the trailer, I was already laughing. Zach Galifianakis is so funny! I haven't seen The Hangover (still waiting for it to be shown on TV—I'm kidding!) but my friends told me I should go watch it. If only to see him and laugh out loud again, I probably will.

My friend Kaich told me that two of my favorite Kristin/Kristens (Chenoweth and Bell, respectively) were in a movie together. I had already read about it by way of Twitter (like all news spread these days) and I couldn't wait to watch it! I think I'd watch anything with some sort of high school theme to it (Easy A, you're next!) so it's no surprise I liked this movie, too. The end was a treat, too, since I was hooked on The Bird and the Bee's tribute album to Hall & Oates a while back. (:

Anyway, it's time to catch with my TV series now. Still behind on Dexter, Chuck, and Glee! What have you been watching?

Songs I Like: Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi "I See the Light"

I'm a big fan of Disney and their movies' OSTs. I used to have Aladdin's OST memorized from Side A to Side B (Come closer, closer... Not that close!), which I think is the best Disney sound track ever. I remember playing the tapes on my Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin sound tracks thin.

My brother told me about a song from Disney's Tangled sung by Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) and Flynn (Zachary Levi). I immediately Googled it to hear the song.

It's no surprise that I love it because the man who's behind the song is the exact same guy who did the scores for Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Little Mermaid—Alan Menken! And it doesn't hurt that Zachary Levi's voice sounds like a true Prince Charming's. ♥

Chocolate Kiss and College

Chocolate Kiss was my happy food in college. I remember trooping there every Thursday (or was it Tuesday?) with Kaich, Patty, and Jeifan. Switching between adobo and chicken kiev and salpicao.

We decided to meet up today for late lunch. I was looking forward to my favorite Kahlua Butter Cake and refillable iced tea. They had already ordered when I got there. I was trying to remember what I always ordered. Kaich said it was Salisbury Steak so I ordered that. "Sorry, Ma'am. Wala na po eh." Then, we figured no, it was Chicken Kiev. "Sorry, Ma'am. Wala na po eh." I really wanted rice. So one more try, "Beef Salpicao na lang." "Sorry, Ma'am. Wala na po eh." HAAAA? The waiter suggested pasta but I was dead set on getting kanin. So I chose an unfamiliar meal (meaning I've never tried it before): Fish Fillet with Pesto Salsa and Paprika Rice.

Then this blob was presented to me. It didn't look appetizing to me but it did smell yummy. I was apprehensive about the salsa because sometimes salsa=wansoy, which I'm not a fan of. But I ended up finishing the entire plate save for maybe two tablespoons of the paprika rice. And then of course, I had to order dessert. Patty already sent me a message ahead of time that Kahlua Butter Cake was available so yay!

I actually told the cake, "I've missed you." I don't know why I love this cake so much. I especially savor the two-part icing going on. Fudge + butter cream, be still my frosting-loving heart.

Here we are trying to channel our college selves. Well, technically, Ry and Kaich are still in school, just on break. Patty and I have no excuse. And Jeifan is being her grown-up self at Philippine Fashion Week. Haha! We missed you, Naf!

Can't wait to see you again on my birthday weekend! (:
